Expressive therapy is a healing practice using the arts as its basis for self-discovery and transformation.
Dance, music, drama, visual arts and writing can offer you a richer language to play, work and grow a life you adore.
You do not need to be an artist. Simple, creative exercises will heighten your senses and unlock imagination, so that you may access vital resources held deep within.
As a heart-based, licensed mental health counselor and board certified dance/movement therapist, I can help you to get out of your head and move through feeling stuck. This is not strictly talk therapy, but exploring one's whole self through the arts. I am committed to assisting you in finding creative ways to give voice to the shadow, the unconscious, the unspeakable experience, to the emotions which have no words.
I specialize in working with people who shy away from making art, as well as those who fearlessly gravitate towards creativity. I work with those who need to reconnect to authentic self expression in their lives, as well as those who feel shut down and unable to communicate. I help clients who have experienced trauma remember how to ground and re-embody their truth. I work with people who are or have been in survival mode to begin to play and integrate beauty into their every day lives.
Dance and other expressive art therapies provide a space for self-discovery and empowerment through telling one’s own story, often nonverbally. I believe in helping clients to articulate their life experiences through art, poetry, music, theater and dance, as it can stimulate a client’s imagination and kick-start the healing process. In re-purposing and utilizing the arts with therapeutic intent, clients can find meaning and make beauty amidst their pain.
